When a disruption to society’s longstanding tradition of restaurants arrives in 2020, four restaurants begin a journey to discover their unique business pivots needed for survival. Through the challenges of competing mandates and guidelines, extreme weather, and dramatic changes in staff and clientele, new and striking realizations are discovered about who we are as a society and how restaurants offer a reflection into the human condition.
Filmed over several years, this film converges the stories of the four different restaurants with first time director David Liu’s unique blend of documentary interview styles and musical score, set against a sound design that amplifies the cacophony of sound that exists in each of the restaurants’ unique kitchen spaces.
